Getting Started

Set Up Security

On first launch, configure Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode to protect your data.

Add Your Firearms

Go to Inventory → Firearms → tap + to add. Include photos, serial numbers, and details.

Track NFA Items

Go to Inventory → Suppressors to add NFA items and track Form 4 status with pending day counters.

Add Accessories

Track optics, lights, magazines, and more. Link them to compatible firearms.

Build Loadouts

Create saved configurations for EDC, home defense, range day, and more.

Use Range Mode

From a loadout, tap "Range Mode" for a distraction-free interface to track rounds fired during your session.

Common Questions

How do I backup my data?
Go to Settings → Backup and enable iCloud Backup. Your data will be encrypted and synced to your personal iCloud account. You can also export to CSV files for local backup.
How do I export for insurance documentation?
Go to Settings → Export and choose CSV. This creates a spreadsheet with all your firearms, serial numbers, and details that you can save or print for insurance purposes.
How do I transfer data to a new phone?
If you have iCloud Backup enabled, your data will automatically appear on your new device when you sign in with the same Apple ID. Otherwise, export your data to CSV on your old device, then import it on the new one.
How does Form 4 tracking work?
When adding a suppressor, enter your Form 4 submission date. Gun Safe App automatically calculates pending days and displays them on your dashboard. Update the status to "Approved" when your stamp comes in, and the item moves to your active inventory.
What's the difference between compatible firearms and mounted-on?
Compatible firearms is a list of all firearms that an accessory CAN fit on. Mounted-on indicates which firearm the accessory is CURRENTLY attached to. You can mount/unmount accessories to track your current configurations.
How does Range Mode track rounds?
Range Mode provides quick buttons based on your magazine capacity (e.g., -1 mag, +1 mag). When you end the session, it automatically updates your firearm's total round count, rounds-since-last-cleaning, and decrements your ammo stock.
Does Gun Safe App work offline?
Yes, 100%. Gun Safe App works completely offline. The only network connection is iCloud sync if you choose to enable it. You can use the app at the range, in the field, or anywhere without cell service.
How do I delete all my data?
Go to Settings → Reset Database to clear all data within the app. Or simply delete the app from your iPhone — all data is removed with it. If you have iCloud sync enabled, remember to also clear it from iCloud.

Troubleshooting

App won't open / crashes on launch

Try force-quitting the app and reopening. If the problem persists, restart your iPhone. As a last resort, you can reinstall the app (data is preserved if iCloud backup is enabled).

Face ID / Touch ID not working

Make sure biometrics are enabled in your iPhone Settings. Gun Safe App uses the system biometric APIs — if Face ID works elsewhere on your phone, it should work in the app.

Data not syncing to new device

Ensure both devices are signed into the same Apple ID and have iCloud sync enabled in Gun Safe App settings. Give it a few minutes — large photo collections may take time to sync.
